First, Windows ClearType actually puts colors left and right of text to make it look thicker. It is like pink and green fringing left and right of text that you notice and there could be a few reasons for that. I have noticed that from all monitors I tried, only Acer had no text fringing on all 3 models I owned, while on all the other brands it was very obvious. Well after that I tried to find a upgrade and went through a few variants of monitors, I think the monitors I had where Samsung C27FG73, Acer XF270HU, LG 32GP850-B, BenQ EX2780Q Acer XV272UKV, and currently the Acer XV272UX. After a few years I got so used to it and text actually was much more soothing to look at, more like on a high density ppi screen. I even made threads back then where people told me it was because of the matte coating which is wrong btw especially since my AOC also had a matte coating. The transition was weird for me and it seemed like text was blurry at first. After that I got my first Acer monitor, the XF270HU, which didn't had ANY color fringing at ALL. My first monitor from AOC had this very noticeable, it was kind of looking like a deliberate sharpness filter. Every single brand had different color fringing around text.

Through my time using monitors I had models from AOC, Acer, LG, BenQ and Samsung.

But no one ever says that this is the case for RGB pixel layouts just as much. It's always (or more recently) where people say stuff like WRGB/QD-OLED HAS bad text quality because of the pixel layout. On my journey of finding the best display for my usecase I went through quiet a few monitors and noticed that every single brand out there, has a different screen calibration and renders text differently. But what I wanted to talk about in this thread is text clarity. I am a very sensitive person to any inperfections a screen has, for example I notice bad response times even on the best IPS panels, like on my XV272UX, where if you use windows night mode, the color transitions on text will be noticeable, on any overdrive setting. I wanted to create this thread since I have never heard anyone talk about this anywhere.
